Avatar

It seems like every 5 months or so I get obsessed with a new movie. This time, it’s James Cameron’s Avatar.

I saw this movie in probably it’s second wave of popularity. I had heard from others that the story was just like Pocahontas but with super cool effects.
And, it is just like Pocahontas with super cool effects.
But, it rocks.

100 years in the future, humans have found a moon, Pandora, with a natural resource that could be extremely profitable—if only the native Na’vi didn’t live on top of the hugest pile of it. Injured marine Jake Sully is sent to negotiate with the Na’vi through an avatar that looks like the native people—9 ft tall, blue skin, tail, etc. Jake finds him self falling in love with the Na’vi princess, however, which = uh oh!
The picture above perfectly captures the magic of the movie, I think.  The blue/green/purple color palette is so cool looking, as are the design of the Na’vi. They have these super cool sparkles on their face, plus some intense barely-there clothing items.

Badass Neytiri.

Although the love story is kind of predictable, James Cameron’s story telling abilities still made it really enjoyable to watch. It’s amazing how you flawlessly went from live action to digital stuff and back again without realizing it. The characters and the world look so real.

Above moment was awesome. Jake + Neytiri = Luv4eva.
The first time I saw Avatar, I saw it in 3-D, and thought it was pretty spectacular. However, the best way to see this movie is IMAX 3-D. It’s an experience that is incredible and overwhelming and amazing. All you can see in front of you is the movie and the 3-D pulls you into it even more.
I was hesitant about the 3-D, because I hate when you go on those Disney rides and things pop out and scare you, but this 3-D is different. Instead of popping out, it pulls you in.  It gives things more of a dimension depth-wise into the picture, not out of it.
This whole movie just transfixes you and pulls you in. Admittedly, when I first saw the preview I was extremely doubtful, but I’ve been proved wrong. This movie is amazing and a must see.

Ps. This girl is way badass.
For the comments: Have you seen Avatar? What did you think? Does it deserve the praise (or in some cases criticism) that it’s getting?

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who hasn't seen it yet. I'll get around to it one day! Haha.
